2010 Holiday Gift Guide for Horror Fiends

Christmas is almost here and for all you slackers, that means just a few more days left to shop for your favorite horror fiends (or to use those gift cards you’ve received to get what you REALLY want)! Interweaving ultra-rare and never-before-seen interview footage of Anthony Perkins and dozens of interviews including Robert Loggia, Olivia Hussey, Henry Thomas, Diana Scarwid, Tom Holland, Hilton Green, Mick Garris and many more, The Psycho Legacy is the first documentary to unite and explore decades of Psycho movies in one place, revealing surprises and insights into what is considered the grandfather of modern horror.

5. Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy Collector’s Edition – Speaking of documentaries, this is one of the year’s best! This special two DVD Collector’s Edition comes with a total of eight hours of entertainment, including enhanced extended interviews, 4-hour filmmaker commentary and a limited edition poster featuring original artwork by Matthew Joseph Peak. A must for any Freddy fan!

6. Splatterhouse (PS3 or XBox) – This game is pure, gory fun! Metal heads, horror freaks and hardcore action gamers, unite! 8. Mini Cassette Tees Horror Tees – We love Mini Cassette Tees! Not only are their t-shirts high quality, but their designs are totally unique and you won’t see them anywhere else. Their may be imitators, but these are the true originals!

9. Bloodbath Morbid Moisture Body Lotion – Bloodbath on Etsy has a ton of cool horror inspired bath and beauty products like “Lip Embalm”, “Zombie Foot Scrubby Soap”, “Dexter Slide Soap” and “Corpse Cleaner” body wash, but my fave is their “Morbid Moisture Body Lotion”. Their intoxicating scents include Cleopatra’s Curse, Creepy Colada, Death by Chocolate, Petrifying Pomegranate, Screamsicle, Vanilla Vamp and Zombie Zen!

10. Hollywood is Dead Poster Art – Artist Matt Busch has taken the world by storm this year with his “Hollywood is Dead” poster art. Check out his zombified versions of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, E.T., Jaws and more and give your fave horror fan some sick new poster art!

Gory Gear: Screaming Brain Studios

Want a horror tee that is different from the typical horror-movie-poster-slapped-on-a-t-shirt design that most vendors carry? I mean, everyone’s got a black shirt in the closet with their fave horror movie on it…but original horror tees are hard to come by.

Which is why, dear fiends, you have me to highlight some of the most original and innovative horror clothing companies around!

And I have no doubt that Screaming Brain Studios is one of these imaginative horror companies.

You see, Artist Terry Callen runs Screaming Brain Studios and creates unique t-shirts and artwork whose roots are in the macabre. Callen is a lifetime artist and started Screaming Brain to bring his obsession with the dark themes of horror to life and to infuse a new perspective into the tired imagery of horror tees and artwork.

Callen was kind enough to send Fatally-Yours some of his wicked, horror-inspired creations for review. Among the items we received were t-shirts “Skullyard”, “Spider Heart” and “Terror Shock”.

“Skullyard” is a green t-shirt that features a skull ‘n’ crossbones with a graveyard and flying bats in the background. This is a fun, whimsical t-shirt that is playful and cartoonish while still maintaining a dark, macabre feel. I especially love the background detail of the graveyard and bats on this t-shirt. This tee comes in unisex sizes and is made out of very sturdy cotton – no flimsy material here!

“Spider Heart” is a girl’s baby doll tee that hugs me in all the right places! It is a super-soft black tee with a pink and purple heart graced by a black widow and encased in its web. This shirt is the perfect mix of girly and spooky and I absolutely love it!

“Terror Shock” is a white shirt accented by black, red and green colors. In bold letters it proclaims “BLOOD-CURDLING TERROR! & SHOCK! AROUND EVER CORNER” as a ghoulish skeleton (or zombie) head gazes on. I love how the design reminds me of old exploitation movie posters! It’s fun, but still manages to have that ooky-spooky feeling about it.

Besides tees, Screaming Brain also sells one-of-a-kind artwork by artist Terry Callen himself! I received two very special prints (which I don’t think are being sold) of Callen’s interpretation of Frankenstein’s Monster (appropriately called “The Monster”) and Nosferatu, called “The Parasite”. Both are GORE-geous works of art and I am honored to hang them in my house! They are the perfect mix of fun, fantastical and fearsome!

Screaming Brain Studios excels at making one-of-a-kind works of art and designs for horror lovers! Besides the products mentioned above they have a collection of other t-shirts, prints, sculptures and other pieces of art for sale. Artist Terry Callen is an extremely talented artist who is helping to bring some much-needed originality to horror tee companies, and I’m glad he is doing it from a dark artist’s perspective!

Interview with Torture Couture's Creator Graciela Martell

Torture Couture was initially conceived by Graciela Martell (aka Miss Torture) as a made-up project for a brand imaging class at FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) in Los Angeles. The assignment was to create a brand, form a target market and create a collection to present to the world. Graciela’s collection consisted of career-wear staples with gothic or edgy influences. Her partner-in-crime came up with the name “Torture Couture” because it matched the ideal look of the collection (couture with an edge), and because the two words looked like a good match! In this incarnation, Torture Couture’s target market was the strong-willed business woman, who, of course, was a trendsetter.

After graduating in 2004, Graciela decided it wasn’t such a bad idea to follow through with the idea of creating Torture Couture based on the brand she had created at FIDM. In the process of designing the collection, Graciela started to make jewelry and accessories for herself. She discovered that other people loved her creations and she’s been making accessories under the Torture Couture brand ever since! The clothing collection is still in the works, but it will be drastically different than the original career staples she created for her class.

Torture Couture is currently a two-person operation.  Besides founder and owner Graciela, there is fabulous webmaster Ross Brown of One-Track Studios. Torture Couture wouldn’t be what it is today without the beautiful crew of models and photographers as well as fierce contributing artist Callow Lily. Torture Couture has a lot of big things planned this year and is currently available for wholesale!

Fatally Yours: How and when did you fall in love with horror? 

Miss Torture: I was a bookworm as a kid so Stephen King was my first taste of horror. My first treasured book was The Talisman [by Stephen King and Peter Straub].

Fatally Yours: What does horror mean to you? 

Miss Torture: Horror means never having to let them live. Horror movies mean I can be myself, knowing there’s someone out there a little more twisted in thought than myself. It’s an outlet for me, personally.

Fatally Yours: How do you incorporate “horror” into your designs?

Miss Torture: Still a girlie ghoul at heart, I like to think our horror items are still feminine. Our bleeding roses, villain cameos, or even the Scary Tales Collection, they’re all very girlie regardless of what influenced the items. The artwork is all done by my favorite artist, Callow Lily, (even Torture logos) which we also incorporate into the items. There’s a little horror in every section of the Torture site.

Fatally Yours: What other things influence your designs? 

Miss Torture: As of late, I’m very inspired by my dreams.  I’ve been creating the latest items off of what I dreamt the night before-it’s spooky. Also music, musicals, films, the current state of mind I’m in, Callow Lily, dominant or strong-minded women, my model muses…just every-day life.

Fatally Yours: What inspired you to start your own clothing company and embrace such a dark aesthetic? 

Miss Torture:  I knew as a kid I would be doing this or something similar in fashion.  I haven’t perfected my first clothing collection-but I will.  I’m just partial to black, what can I say…

Fatally Yours: What challenges have you faced and overcome with Torture Couture?

Miss Torture: Catty designers. No one likes the new kid in school, of course. I stay civil with other designers, and I suggest they do the same for business-sake.

Fatally Yours: Your accessories have been worn by some very famous people and models! Do you have a favorite person who has worn your designs? 

Miss Torture: They’re all so talented!  I couldn’t choose just one! I heart them all-Bernie Dexter, Chris Motionless, Masuimi Max, Miss Derringer…They’ve all been wonderful to us and we’re so very grateful for the support.

Fatally Yours: If you could choose anyone, living or dead, to model Torture Couture who would it be and why? 

Miss Torture: Lots of people have said it, but I have to say Bettie Page. She’s the perfect Torture girl. And one who would never say she was sorry for what she said, did, or wore.  My ideal Torture ghoul is her own woman.

Fatally Yours: It seems most of the horror-themed clothing companies only offer clothing in men’s sizes. Why do you think the horror genre has been primarily a male’s domain?

Miss Torture: People assume men are the majority interested in horror, but it’s so untrue these days! A large portion of our customers are horror fans, and most importantly, they are women. Give a gal a little credit, I’m certain some of the most horrifying minds today belong to spooky little girls.

Fatally Yours: What elements can female designers bring to horror-themed clothing that is different than males’ designs?

Miss Torture: I think we bring items to life, as opposed to just plastering horror images onto a t-shirt.

Fatally Yours: How do you feel about people that think women are too “soft” to handle horror themes? 

Miss Torture: Only someone who is afraid of women would say that.

Fatally Yours: What women do you look up to and admire and why?

Miss Torture: I’m not going to name names, but I do admire any woman who is strong-willed, her own person, with the guts to do with her life as she pleases. Like my Mother, I suppose.

Fatally Yours: What advice would you give women who want to start their own clothing company?

Miss Torture: Don’t let negative advice keep you down. Do what you feel is best for yourself or your business, without losing integrity. Quality over quantity. Be an honest business. Do what you love. And spoil your crew rotten (models and photographers).

Fatally Yours: What’s the last horror movie/book you saw/read?

Miss Torture: The last book I read was Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z. Brite. It’s not a new book or anything but it’s one of my favorites. I read it often.

Fatally Yours: What’s one horror movie you think is HIGHLY underrated?

Miss Torture: OTIS. It’s not hardcore, it‘s got comedy, but COME ON! It’s a really good movie.

Fatally Yours: What are your favorite horror films, books, etc.?

Miss Torture: Audition, Dracula, Suspiria, Tale of Two Sisters, Hellraiser, Hellraiser Bloodline, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Ginger Snaps, High Tension, House of 1000 Corpses, se7en, American Psycho, Feast, Natural Born Killers, Army of Darkness, Evil Dead, Drag Me to Hell.

Fatally Yours: Do you have any new designs you’d like to tell us about?

Miss Torture: Our newest collection Wonderland Lolita has commenced and there will be new items from that series put up from now through March!

Gory Gear: Dance Party Massacre - Season 3

One of our favorite horror inspired clothing lines, Dance Party Massacre, is back with a whole new line of horrifyingly awesome tees! Their Season Three line is all about a retro vibe and feel while still keeping its wearers feeling fresh!

Case in point is the new tee called “The Trilogy”. This retro-styled tee is a throwback to ‘70s and ‘80s horror movie posters. It features plenty of booze, babes and blood to satisfy any nostalgic horror fan!

There is also “Survival Kit,” a red shirt featuring all the tools for surviving the horror trade including a cross, a butcher knife, a needle containing “the cure”, a flask containing “courage” and so on! This is one of the coolest shirts in the new line and will be sure to make you the center of attention!

The sweatshirt “Live Fast & Die Young” is sporty and boldly proclaims your intent to enjoy life while you still have it…before some masked killer comes to punish you for all the illicit fun you’ve been having! I really dig the style on this one, because it looks sporty but has a very anti-establishment message emblazoned across the front!

The colorful “Never Sleep” is emblazoned with eyeballs all over the front of a black tee. It is a very playful and fun tee, one that’s sure to turn some heads! Jeepers creepers, you’ll want to keep an eye on this one!

With Season Three, Dance Party Massacre has premiered their woman-only “Bite Me” tee! This vampy design is sure to attract attention, whether it is bloodsuckers out for a quick bite or passing pedestrians who will no doubt give you wide berth, which is hopefully the outcome you wanted! I love that DPM has made a strictly woman-only tee, especially one as sleek and stylish as “Bite Me”!

Dance Party Massacre has many other fantastic clothing designs and any horror fan would be lucky to wear their tees! With the holiday season coming up, now is a perfect time to add these to your wish list or buy them for that extra special someone in your life!

Dance Party Massacre is one of my favorite tee shirt companies because of their uniqueness, clever humor and killer style of their clothing. If they were a movie, they would definitely be a treasured cult classic!

Gory Gear: Headstone City Horror Tees

With Halloween right around the corner, people like you are surely looking for some deadly duds to dress your dapper corpse! Problem is, most horror-inspired designs are just tees with boring ol’ movie poster prints ironed on them…and EVERYONE has one of those! I love classic horror movie posters as much as the next ghoulish girl, but with horror tees I want designs to stand out and be different than what everyone else is wearing!

Sometimes, it can be quite difficult to find new and exciting horror tee companies that deliver unique designs, but certainly not today! Today I bring you Headstone City, a clothing company that specializes in original designs that you won’t see anywhere else!

Founder and designer Damon Cassaro created the company because he had the same problem as many others with finding distinctive horror tees. So, he decided a solution to that problem was to start his own company where he could design all the shirts to ensure they were one of a kind. His shirts are inspired by all things horror, from movies to magazines and books, as well as a strong dose of rock ‘n’ roll thrown in for good measure.

Cassaro was gracious enough to send a big pack of amazing tees to review, which included Headstone City’s newest designs  “Gravedigger’s Local 552”, “Headstone City Cleaver”, “Your Name Here” and “Chiroptera of the Western Carpathians”. All of the t-shirts are extremely high quality – I always hate when companies use cheaper, flimsier shirts, but I didn’t have to worry about that with Headstone City! All of their tees are thick, yet still soft, cotton material.

My favorite tee is “Gravedigger’s Local 552”, a macabre black tee with stark white lettering that proudly proclaims the gravedigger’s union while a twisted skeleton adorns a spiderweb on the top part of the shirt. Besides the spooky connotation of “the gravedigger” I love the historic feel of the shirt. Even the description of the tee delves into the haunted history of this particular North Carolina union.

As you can tell, I am very amused

Another cemetery-themed t-shirt is the appropriately named “Your Name Here”, another bold design featuring a tombstone with, you guessed it, “Your Name Here” fearlessly etched onto its surface. Those that appreciate morbidly dark humor (like myself) will no doubt fall head over heels for this particular design.

“Headstone City Cleaver” offers a splash of blood-red color with the gruesome aftermath of a cleaver cutting off a hand. And who doesn’t like a little blood splatter on their clothes?

The girl’s tee “Chiroptera of the Western Carpathians” features one of my favorite animals – the bat. Only, this isn’t just any bat; this is the giant bat that terrorized the Carpathian Mountains in the ‘50s! No matter if this colossal bat ever existed, all that matters is that it looks creepy-cute on this t-shirt!

I love how each of the tees come with their own story – fact or fiction, they are all entertaining! Besides the amusing stories that accompany every Headstone City t-shirt, the tees are special because they are one of a kind, possessing a style all their own. As Cassaro points out, “There are a million shirts you can get with Freddy or Jason on them. But if you want a shirt that’s truly original, creative and avant garde then Headstone City is the place for you…Headstone City’s t-shirts appeal to the devoted horror fan, the passive horror fan and everyone in between.”

Gory Gear: The Brothers Ink

The Brothers Ink is a unique t-shirt company. Not only are their dark, morbid designs wicked cool, but the company is run by the artists and designers themselves! They strive to be the most creator-friendly t-shirt company around, so if an artist’s designs are accepted, the t-shirt is advertised as the artist’s own! Plus, the artists receive royalties on every sale of their shirts!

The Brothers Ink debuted at the San Diego Comic Con with three lines of designs, but they are working on expanding their line as more and more artists contribute their designs. Since the artists are working for more than just a one-time fee, they work harder to create their best work to ensure its success and we get some bad-ass t-shirts outta this deal!

Now, The Brothers Ink was kind enough to send us four of their shirts for review. First is the “Skull Badge” shirt designed by Drunken Apostles. This black tee with a shaded skull surrounded by filigree will make you feel like a true hard-ass. The skull design on this tee makes it really stand out from other skull t-shirts. “Skull Badge” has a very sinister, dark, don’t-mess-with-me vibe that just begs to be worn while riding a Harley or hanging out in a dive bar.

Next is “Undead Boy” by DeadBoy, a stark white stick figure set against a black t-shirt. This stick-figure zombie has come back from death with a taste for flesh…that flesh being his little pet dog. The design is nicely juxtaposed on the left side of the tee, giving it a stylish twist.

DeadBoy also designed the “Drowning” tee, where another stick figure is dying a grisly death underwater. This t-shirt comes in white, with the sketched design in black positioned on the right side of the shirt.

My favorite t-shirt would have to be “Skull Balloon,” as designed by artist Jason Shawn Alexander from his Skull Saw line of clothing! It shows a dark figure of a little boy holding a bleeding balloon that features a leering skull. The effect is unsettling and creeptastic! Also unique to this t-shirt is that it is printed on a tan tee instead of the usual black or white, which makes it stand out even more!

Gory Gear: Akumu Ink

Akumu Ink is a new clothing company that launched in early 2008. Based in Montreal, Akumu’s bold t-shirts stand out because of the special care that owners Joey and Dora put into them. Shirts are printed only when an order is placed. Once each shirt is hand printed, Joey then touches up any areas by hand while Dora treats each one with heat to ensure a super-soft feel. Each shirt is tagged with its own hand-written toe tag for a morbidly delightful touch!

Not only that, but Akumu Ink’s t-shirt designs are original and impressive! Akumu Ink wears its influences on its stylish sleeves and is inspired by horror movies, anime, comics and Japanese culture. The name “Akumu” itself means “nightmare” in Japanese! Joey says, “We were playing around with the concept of letting our ideas flow from our dreams to a tangible state and came up with the name Akumu Ink.”
Akumu’s newest shirts are prime examples of this fusion of influences. “Toyko Massacre” features a design with a cute (but deadly) Japanese schoolgirl wearing a Jason-inspired hockey mask and wielding a mean-looking chainsaw that would give Leatherface a run for his money. The design is full of energy and I love how the design juxtaposes innocence and evil!

Their next new shirt design is called “Shukketsu,” which translates to “bleeding.” One of Akumu Ink’s more gory tees, “Shukketsu” will have people thinking you’ve had a run in with Hellraiser’s Pinhead! Bloody trails track across the t-shirt and the razorblade emblazoned with “Akumu Ink” at the bottom hemline guarantee you’ll stand out in the horror crowd!

Akumu’s dark “Of Horror I” tee shows a frightened victim surrounded by bright red splatters and drips of blood. This striking print is what every horror tee should be: shocking, disturbing and bold!

Other shirts feature grinning cats, crescent moons, grinning skulls, cute (but morbidly obsessed) Japanese girls, splatterpunk scissors, hearts and stars! Their tees come in many colors, among them bleakest black, putrescent pink and gangrene green. Most come in either men’s/women’s sizes and can be specially ordered to come with or with out the Akumu Ink logo.

Akumu Ink does everything with its customers and fans in mind. As co-owner Dora says, “A lot of time goes into our product but at the end of the day we are really proud with what we put out and I think people can see that.”

Gory Gear: Grim Threads

Horror fans are always hungry for new t-shirt companies that make one-of-a-kind horror tees. In a sea of black horror shirts adorned with horror movie logos/posters/etc., it’s hard to find something unique that stands out. That’s where new clothing company Grim Threads comes in! Their brightly colored, macabre shirts are the perfectly perky antidote to the ho-hum horror movie tees crowding the marketplace.

Taking inspiration from horror movies, street graffiti, art and anime, creator Schuyler Abrams infuses his tees with a vibrant energy most horror-inspired t-shirts lack. He is a horror fan who counts Suspiria, The Funhouse, Creepshow, Rosemary’s Baby and Donnie Darko among his cinematic influences for his art.

Abrams is a “one-man army,” running the whole Grim Threads empire himself. He says the only thing he doesn’t do is print the tees himself, leaving that to a print shop. He only just started Grim Threads in early 2008, and the company has been building a steady fan base ever since. The bold designs give fans much needed variety, coming in shades of rich purples, pumpkin-bright oranges, bubblegum pinks and deep blood reds.

Grim Threads newest design is called “Sunburn.” Coming in red (in men’s) and pink (in women’s), the tee features a cute anime-inspired vamp along the side. The bright colors and cartoonish look give the t-shirt a very playful and animated feel. It comes printed on soft cotton material that’s easy to cozy up to.

Another unique design (and the one that first caught my eye) is “Dosidicus Gigas (Giant Squid).” It’s a ghostly white tee with a fantastically designed giant squid stretching from shoulder to mid-stomach. The black squid contrasts nicely against the stark white shirt and I love the style that the squid was drawn in. When I was in high school, I was a bit of a geek and I was totally into cryptozoology. The infamous kraken (giant squid) was completely fascinating to me, so it’s no wonder why I love this shirt so much!

Grim Threads also has a few designs that are set to be released this fall and winter. The first is called “Sir Rottlsworth” and features a dapper ghoul (reminiscent of those from Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion) haunting a grave. Though colors might be altered, I really dig the orange tee the design is currently printed on. This is set to be released in October 2008, so keep your eyes peeled and put it on your Halloween wish list like I’m going to!

For winter, Grim Threads has the “Nevermore” tee, a classic black tee imprinted with a design of a raven. It’s “perfect for sitting in front of a fire reading many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,” as Mr. Abrams says. Gory Gear: Plushybutt

Plushybutts are soft and cuddly creations handmade by Shannon Hahn. Hahn got the idea for making Plushybutts from a Christmas book that featured cute characters. She thought she could do better and put her sewing skills to the test! Without any premade patterns and various scraps of cloth Plushybutts was born!

Hahn creates new Plushybutts on a regular basis, with no two creations looking exactly alike. Her DIY attitude mixed with her love of “cute but ugly toys” lead to her creations of Foxy the Heart Eater, C-section Sammy, Bunny Kill, Bloodsucking Block Head and Wrecker the Worm, along with a plethora of other kooky creations. The toys looks like Japanese animated characters – they are brightly colored, come in all kinds of unimaginable shapes and sizes and are both terribly cute and endearingly ugly all at the same time!

We received Wrecker the Worm for the purposes of this review and this Plushybutt was pretty darn irresistible. Wrecker was made out of soft felt and hand-sewn together. His bright yellow chest and eyes stood out against his mottled, bottle-green body. His little bow tie was so darn cute…the only thing that seemed to be missing were some librarian glasses to complete the “book worm” look!

Plushybutt also carries many other plushy creations – including a gigantic bloody tampon, poop, an ax and many other cuddly (but bizarre) things! Hahn takes special orders so anything you would like can be handmade by her.

Each Plushybutt is unique and handmade, so everyone will get something special…no two are exactly alike! Hahn’s creations already have lots of happy customers (check out the photo section on their Myspace page!!!) and I’m sure many more are to come!

Gory Gear: Sock Zombies

It all began in a university biology department. What seemed like a routine procedure in a level 3 biohazard facility went terribly wrong. One researcher felt her foot tingle and discovered…her sock had come back from the dead. Thus sock zombies were born and the infection spread rapidly. By nightfall the socks were rising in every neighborhood!

Be warned – Sock Zombies are dangerously cuddly! Approach with extreme caution…or you’ll be infected with their cuteness!

Sock Zombies are the creation of Emily Williams. After being involved in a “stitch and bitch” group every weekend and wanting to make something other than the standard sock monkeys, Emily came up with the idea of making sock ZOMBIES! Emily has been a big zombie fan for all her life and wanted to create a zombie doll for her three year old son that wasn’t too scary. Her creations are the perfect plushy softness that invite cuddling, though Emily says, “I have doomed to my son. When the zombie plague hits, he is going to run out and try to give them all hugs!”

After she made sock zombies for her son (the first two were named Zack and Zelda, after characters in the novel World War Z by Max Brooks and the movie Pet Cemetery), she realized how much she loved them and decided to sell them online. Emily came up with back stories on each of her unique zombie characters (no zombie is ever the same and each one is handmade) and says, “I enjoy imagining scary zombie scenes. It’s like I’m writing my own zombie movie. Sometimes I make some of my favorite hero zombies. I made Bub once and Trash from Return of the Living Dead.”

We received our own sock zombie named Alex. “Alex played basketball with his Dad every afternoon after school, so he waited eagerly for him to come home from work. Unfortunately, Dad wasn’t feeling well enough to play that night, so Alex sat on the end of his bed and told him about his school day. Suddenly his Dad jumped out of bed and bit him. Alex looked down to where his arm used to be, and blacked out. He woke up hungry. Now Alex and his dad have a new father-son activity…hunting.”

Alex came with a bloodied stump of an arm (red yarn), a holey, bloody sweater reminiscent of the one Freddy Krueger wears, some green corduroy pants and a mop of soft, blue hair. Immediately my first reaction was to cuddle the sock zombie, because he is just begging to be hugged! Little did I know that his cuteness had been my demise…No one is safe against this new threat of the highly squeezable and irresistible Sock Zombies!

Sock Zombies have only been available for six months, but they are going quicker than hotcakes! Need a cool toy for your kids or for yourself? The tees were thick and plush, made with 100% cotton and were probably the highest quality tees I’ve seen in quite some time. The designs themselves were gorgeous! They were bright and bold in red and white printed on black tees. The designs were simple, but really popped! The Beserk label slashed through in a deep blood red, but never once did it overpower the main designs.

The rest of the designs that adorn Beserk’s clothing are all equally attention-grabbing. The bold red, white and black color scheme is present throughout all the creations, from skirts, halters, shorts, dresses and tees. Gory Gear: Level 27 Clothing

If you like a slice of the darker side of life, like wandering cemeteries under a full moon, cozying up with some old black and white horror classics like Bride of Frankenstein or Dracula and counting the days until Halloween, then you will revel in the creepy clothing creations of Level 27!

Started by best friends Steve Sievers and Billy Martin (of band Good Charlotte fame), Level 27 Clothing boasts playfully dark designs, most of which are designed by Martin himself. Bats, zombies, blood splatter and monsters adorn their exuberantly macabre tees and hoodies.

Ghouls and boils will love their colorful designs that just scream “FOR THE LOVE OF HORROR!” They were kind enough to send us several of their designs for review, and now we present these to you, dear readers!

First up we have two of Level 27’s zombie tees. The first is called “Lone Zombie” and appropriately features one green-tinged, moldy-looking zombie shambling across the blood-splattered front of a black shirt, a bold Level 27 logo in the background. This tee will have you looking slick for the impending zombie apocalypse…

The zombie love continues with Level 27’s “Walking Zombies” tee. Printed on a black t-shirt, two zombies jerkily drag themselves along the right-hand bottom hem. The bright-blood red, gothic Level 27 logo stands guard over the right breast, seemingly protecting the wearer from attack…or perhaps encouraging it!

Zombies need some killer threads, too, and that’s where UK-based Bite Mark Clothing shambles in. Creeptacular creator Elaine Blakely has created a fun clothing line that both zombies and zombie lovers will die for.

Bite Mark Clothing is the brainchild of Blakely, who designs, prints, packages and mails all the t-shirts herself. All of the tees are limited editions, and come toe-tagged with custom labels that show which limited edition you have received out of 250.

Launched on the ever-so appropriate day of October 31st, 2007, the clothing line is already a hit among horror fans as well as being worn by bands (Blakely announced that the label will exclusively sponsor a few lucky bands, the very first being Autumn Tragedy) and featured in magazine articles (most recently in Revenant Magazine – check out their giveaway for Bite Mark shirts!). Unlike the slow zombies Blakely so loves, Bite Mark Clothing shows no signs of slowing down.

We were tickled blood red by the packages that we received to review for Bite Mark. First off, the packaging was absolutely wicked! This was, hands down, the BEST horror packaging I’ve seen yet! The padded envelopes were black and addressed with custom Bite Mark shipping labels. The other side of the envelope was emblazoned with a red biohazard print and, best of all, bloody hand prints! Suffice to say, I was already drooling before even opening the envelopes!!

Inside, each shirt was lovingly wrapped in blood red tissue paper and sealed with a Bite Mark sticker. With this GORE-geous presentation, I just couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into Bite Mark Clothing’s tees!

And what a tasty, tasty experience it was! The designs are printed on super-soft, super-comfy American Apparel shirts that feel oh-so-good! My favorite shirt of the bunch turned out to be the awesome “Die Happy” tee. It’s a very simple design, but entirely eye-catching. The font is slightly distressed, giving the tee that “worn-in” look (or that I-just-fought-a-horde-of-zombies-now-make-me-a-sandwich look). Die happy today!

Next up is the “I Love Zombies” tee. And who doesn’t love zombies? Let your love be known with this unique this design that re-creates an otherwise common phrase by using a killer font and replacing a cutesy red heart with a real-looking, anatomically correct model. It gives new meaning to the phrase, “I give you my heart!” This shirt will have you ripping out your own heart for a pieces of the action!

So, you wanna be a part of the zombie team? You know you do…and you’ll definitely need the “Bite Mark Jersey” tee to make varsity! This classic tee uses a distressed font on a black t-shirt with a trio of Bite Mark’s trademark skulls smack dab in the middle. Go Team Zombie, go!

Gory Gear: Bodybag Trading Cards

“…the badly decomposed bodies of 12 women were found in the crawlspace…”

“Scattered throughout…were the dismembered bodies of 7 local children…”

“The headless body of an unidentified female was found on a set of railroad tracks…”

“Her left arm was completely severed from her body.”

“The unknown assailant used a chainsaw to dismember both of the girls.”

“She had been bludgeoned to death with a lead pipe…”

“A large, gaping slash ran across her mouth, believed to have been inflicted with a straight razor.”

“…suffocated with a shower curtain and stabbed 27 times in the face with an icepick…”

“She had been beaten so severely that the back of her skull cracked open like a melon.”

These graphic quotes are taken directly from mock crime stories featured in Troy Holbrook’s Bodybag Trading Cards. Despite how shocking the stories on the cards are, the photographs are even more disturbing. They feature the grisly remains of the victims in stark black and white. The black and white photographs, just like the story, aren’t real…but they definitely look very realistic!

Creator Troy Holbrook not only came up with the overall concept for the cards, but he also did the special FX, the photography and the actual writing of the fictional crime stories featured on the back of the trading cards. The results clearly demonstrate his skill and passion in all three areas.

First of all, the special makeup effects are the most striking aspects of the cards. Everything from the blood running down the models’ faces to the cuts, disfigurements, bruises, etc. looks extremely realistic! The gore is so incredibly life-like that it only adds to the illusion that the photographs are real. One headless corpse in particular will make you do a double take!

Secondly, the stark black and white photography significantly heightens the realism of the trading cards. It’s easy to imagine the photographs as crime scene photos from police archives. Holbrook has captured truly horrified emotions on his models’ faces. He also sets up his photographs in a way that ensures the models are never exploited. Though nudity is shown, it’s never in a titillating way, but rather in a cold, clinical way much like crime photography the cards emulate.

Thirdly, the stories on the back of the cards pull everything together and tell us a story about the visceral photographs on the front. The stories themselves are realistically written, including names and ages of the deceased along with locations of the crimes. The small details and the matter-of-fact way the stories are written lend credence to the realistic tone the trading cards have. In fact, I had to actually contact Troy and ask him if the stories were actually pulled from headlines or if they were all made-up. He assured me that they were fictional accounts that he himself had come up with for the trading cards.

This is the first edition of the Bodybag Trading Cards, and they include 15 high-quality trading cards. The cards themselves are very thick and are UV coated on the back and front. They are an amazing set of trading cards that vividly depict the murder victims of mock serial killers.

If you’re a serial killer buff like me, there is no doubt you will enjoy these startling trading cards. Fellow fiends of the macabre will be tickled blood red by these grisly depictions of mock murders and horrific crimes!

Gory Gear: Electric Zombie Clothing

Electric – adjective:
1. Pertaining to, derived from, produced by, or involving electricity: an electric shock.
2. Producing, transmitting, or operated by electric currents: an electric bell; electric cord.
3. Electrifying; thrilling; exciting; stirring: The atmosphere was electric with excitement.

Zombie – noun:
1. A reanimated corpse

Electric Zombie is the brainchild of designer Kyle Crawford, who has garnered much of his experience designing shirts for bands, record labels and tours in the hard rock/metal music community. His horror and metal-themed designs have ended up on CDs, posters, advertisements and even tour staging. While working with Rockett Clothing, Kyle was encouraged by many friends to start his own clothing company…with that, Electric Zombie was born. Kyle says he “wanted to have a company for those who loved horror and were a fan of my work. It’s like a comic book collection I share with everyone.”

Kyle chose the name “Electric Zombie” after designing a shirt of the same name for screamo band From First to Last. The name fits the shirts to a T (hehehe). The designs are electrifying and thrilling, with a major focus on horror themes.

If Electric Zombie has a shirt that best exemplifies its aesthetic, it would very well be the “Kill or Be Killed” shirt. It is a simple black shirt emblazoned with the motto “Kill or Be Killed.” This phrase could pretty much be the tag line for any horror movie, or perhaps for the whole horror genre itself! Its font has a very distressed, grindhouse-inspired look that is entirely eye-catching. The shirt fits snugly and is made of high-quality, thick fabric. “Kill or Be Killed” is a shirt sure to please any horror fan, or those that appreciate its take-no-prisoners motto.

Electric Zombie’s newer designs include the “Dome Splitter,” a blood-soaked homage to gruesome giallos or sanguine slashers. The large print features a woman who has just had her skull split open, with rivulets of blood dripping down her shocked face that is captured in mid-scream. It reminds me of the “Machete Zombie” from Dawn of the Dead or a set-piece from a Dario Argento bloodbath. One thing is for sure, gorehounds will delight over this drool-worthy design.

Another of Electric Zombie’s newest design included a very unique take on McDonald’s purple blob character, Grimace. Electric Zombie’s “Grimace” is a far cry from the dimwitted fatso featured in McDonald’s advertising. Electric Zombie’s Grimace is a green slime-oozing and drooling monster that shows a deceptive marketing tool for what it really is. Printed on soft purple shirt, Electric Zombie’s “Grimace” is a head-turner.

Inspired by horror movies, the 80s and life in general, Kyle Crawford’s Electric Zombie is going strong. Though Kyle plans on releasing more designs, he has no plans for expanded product lines. As he says, “I also don’t plan on releasing lines, just more or less batches of shirts as I get ideas. It’s something that’s very exciting and I’ve had a fun and positive response so far.”

Electric Zombie is another quality clothing label that makes unique and memorable horror shirts. What makes it even more amazing are the low prices…tees will usually only run you about $10!! Besides the three designs just discussed, Electric Zombie currently carries seven other original designs ranging from the comic book-inspired “Decay” shirt to the Friday the 13th homage called “Machete.”

Amazingly bold designs and unbelievably low prices make Electric Zombie another clothing company that we cannot recommend enough. They are truly in it “for the love of horror” and to bring fans satisfyingly gory and disturbing designs!

Gory Gear: Mini Cassette Tees

Strikingly bold and beautifully bright t-shirt designs make Mini Cassette Tees stand out from the horror tee crowd. That, and their varied selection of tees that go beyond the horror spectrum and into different designs from the sci-fi and video game worlds. The company was started by three fans in 2007 who wanted unique shirts to wear. Not finding anything but the same ho-hum black and white t-shirt designs, they decided to start making their own…out of this Mini Cassette Tees was formed.

Mini Cassette’s designs focus on nostalgic subjects, but it’s their presentation of these subjects that makes them feel so fresh and new. For example, horror fans’ beloved Bub, the brainy zombie from Day of the Dead, is infused with new life in a bright turquoise blue and blood red combination. His visage really pops in these colors against a black tee as he chews on a tasty reward. With the mix of bright colors and one of my favorite horror characters on this shirt, it is my favorite from Mini Cassettes.

Then again, they also have “The Iller” shirt, featuring everyone’s favorite “Thrill”-er, Michael Jackson in full zombie glory. I remember being enthralled by the music video as a kid (while my best friend Megan just couldn’t bear to watch it) and the same can still be said today. There’s just something about the mix of the music, the zombie dance and the familiar voice of Vincent Price to get any horror fan tapping their foot to the beat. This design is insanely popular nowadays (maybe because Michael Jackson really IS starting to look like a decomposing zombie), but I could never get enough “Thriller” anyway. In Mini Cassette’s design, their zombified Michael stares from the depths of his sunken eyes, awash in gruesome green and clothed in his signature red jacket. The backdrop against a black shirt re-emphasizes the fact that he appears to be “coming for you!” out of the shadows! This shirt is pure perfection…

The theme of zombies continues with the girls-only “I Love Zombies” tee, perfect for expressing to the world how you feel about the shuffling slow-movers. It’s playful, colorful and will let people know that your heart belongs to the walking dead! I consider this a perfect gift for Valentine’s Day, either for yourself or fellow horror lover! C’mon…who wouldn’t want to give their heart to a zombie this Valentine’s Day?

Next is the exclusive girls’ tee, “My Pet Zombie.” Printed on a green shirt, this tee celebrates the awesomeness of the possibility of having a pet zombie. Just like in one of last year’s favorite horror films, Fido, this tee takes the time to ponder the possibilities if zombies could be domesticated as pets!! The cute but edgy ‘50s-inspired little girl on the shirt shares our dreams and has somehow made them a reality, for trailing behind her is her own pet zombie, ready to play “tea party.” Look closer and you’ll see “Bub” spelled out in block letters near the zombie’s feet! Everyone will be green with envy when you are the first to wear this must-have shirt!

I’m a big fan of horror movies in general, but the SEIBEI worldview has been influenced primarily by these films: Vampire Hunter D, Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead, The Happiness of the Katakuris, Evil Dead 2, most any Godzilla movie, and The Lost Boys. I’m trying to strike a good balance between weird and cute, with a bit of black humor, and hopefully you’ll be able to see their influence in some new designs that are in the works.”

Being one of the undead would explain a lot about the seemingly decaying Michael Jackson, which is one of the reasons the “Thriller Was a Documentary” shirt is so friggin’ awesome. It also has the style of George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, which just makes it that much cooler. I always had my suspicions about Michael…and how rad would the zombie apocalypse be if it was a choreographed dance number!?
